Walleye Drop 3-2 Shootout Game in Indy

(Indianapolis, IN) Both Evan Rankin and A.J. Jenks scored for Toledo as the Walleye picked up a point in a 3-2 shootout loss at Indy Friday night. Toledo has a record of 0-0-0-1 and is 0-0-0-1 on the road.

Indy struck first with a goal on the first shot of the game at 1:18 of the first period. Toledo tied the game at 8:34 as A.J. Jenks buried a rebound. After the Fuel regained the lead, Evan Rankin picked up his first goal at 17:45 of the first period. Rankin deflected the blue line shot of defenseman Ralfs Freibergs.

A scoreless second period saw the Walleye dominate play out shooting the Fuel 11-4 in the period. Neither team could end the game in regulation despite great chances on each side. Toledo outshot the Fuel 31-22 through overtime.

Goaltender Shane Owen stopped both Shane Berschbach and Kyle Bonis in the shootout and the Fuel scored twice on Jeff Lerg.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg finished with 21 saves on the 23 shots he faced. Shane Berschbach had an assist on each of the two goals for Toledo after setting a Toledo Walleye record with 48 assists in 2014-15.
