WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets announced today the signing of catcher Beau Fraser (6'1"/220 lbs.) from the University of Portland. Fraser, who will join the team in Cowlitz for the Sweets series against the Black Bears starting on Tuesday, July 10, adds depth, experience and versatility to a Sweets offense that is currently third in the West Coast League in homeruns and OPS.

"Beau is a talented and versatile player who immediately gives (manager) J.C. Biagi options on both offense and defense," said Sweets general manager Zachary Fraser (no immediate relation). "He will add depth behind the plate, in the field, and as an effective bat in the lineup as a designated hitter."

Fraser, a redshirt junior at the University of Portland, has been one of the Pilots most consistent performers over the past few seasons. In 2010, he hit .314 with 7 homeruns and led the Pilots with 45 RBI. He was a 2010 WCC All-Academic team member and recorded 15 multi-hit games that season, including five consecutive multi-hit games from 3/18/10 to 3/27/10. In 2011, he utilized a medical redshirt, and came back in 2012 to hit .234 in 30 starts with 1 homerun and 12 RBI. He started the 2012 WCL season with the Corvallis Knights.

"Jarrod (Turner) and J.J. (Robinson) have done a great job this season," said manager J.C. Biagi. "With Kevin (Hawk) still working to rehab his knee, adding Beau gives us some flexibility and depth with the roster as well as another veteran catcher who knows how to play the game at a high level. We are excited for him to join us in Cowlitz."

The Sweets are on the road starting July 10 and return to Walla Walla on July 17 to host the Cowlitz Black Bears. Walla Walla is also preparing to host the 2012 WCL All-Star Game presented by NAPA Auto Parts on Tuesday, July 24 at Borleske Stadium.
