Black Bears Fall Just Short Despite Ozanne Home Run

July 10, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Bellingham: July 10, 2012: Despite a home run from Matt Ozanne (Santa Clara) that brought the Cowlitz Black Bears within a run, the team couldn't complete the comeback, losing 3-2 to the Walla Walla Sweets.

Cody Rogina (UC Riverside) pitched excellent on the mound, allowing two runs on just two hits in six and a third innings. Ryan McCarthy (Rice) pitched a scoreless inning and Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside) pitched one and two thirds innings of shutout ball to end the game.

Down 3-0, the Black Bears got a base runner on to begin the eighth when Konnor Armijo (Santa Ana) drew a walk. Ozanne then hit a fastball over the left-field wall; he had previously been robbed of a potential base hit on two different occasions.

However, Walla Walla retired the side in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. The Black Bears are now 12-17 in WCL play.

The Black Bears next home game is Wednesday, July 11 against the Walla Walla Sweets. It will be Burgerville Family Night. Four GA tickets, four sodas, and four hot dogs for only $32.00 (extra tickets $4.00/extra package tickets $8.00). It is also Longview Schools Spirit Night.
