Walks, Missed Offensive Opportunities Lead to Game One Loss for Sweets
July 11, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Kelowna, BC- The Sweets took a tough loss in game one of three with Kelowna, 9-0. The Falcons (20-8) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Sweets (14-15) failed to score despite many opportunities.
Walla Walla had no problem getting runners on base, but they struggled getting them home. They left the bases loaded three times and left two on three times as well for a total of 15 stranded. That, combined with nine walks yielded, four of which came around to score, made for a long night for the Sweets.
The bright spot in the game was Paul Heywood. He came in as a pinch hitter and went 2-2 while also pitching a perfect inning in relief. It was his first appearance on the mound in a Sweets uniform.
The Falcons showed why they lead the division with a balanced offensive attack and good pitching.
The Sweets and Falcons will match up again tomorrow at 6:35pm for game two. Tune in on ESPN Walla Walla as the Sweet go for the tie.
