Rogues Unable to Hold on to Early Lead

BEND, OR - After a three game homestand against the Corvallis Knights and a day off, the Rogues were looking to get back into winning ways against the Bend Elks. Medford jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but was unable to keep pace with the Elks and fell in game one, 5-3. The Rogues now are 12-16 in league play.

Medford got on the board early in the game, starting in the first inning and scored again in the third, leading the Elks, 2-0. Bend answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning, jumping ahead, 3-2. The Rogues tied it up in the top of the fourth after Tony Roque reached on a leadoff single and J.J. Kitaoka brought him home with an RBI. Unable to score anymore runs, the Rogues fell to the Bend Elks, 5-3.

Tony Roque led the offensive charge, getting two hits in four plate appearances. He scored a run for the Rogues and now has a season batting average of .294. Stefan Panayioutou also had a strong showing for Medford, Panayioutou had two hits in four at bats, improving his season average to .304.

On the mound, Max Bethell earned the start. He went four innings, gave up four earned runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out three and now has a season ERA of 4.77. Bethell got the loss while Elks pitcher, Aaron Leasher earned the win. Leasher went four innings, gave up two earned runs on five hits and now has a season ERA of 3.24.

The Rogues and the Elks face off again tomorrow night in game two with first pitch is at 6:35pm.
