Round Rock Express News Release

In the first half, the Round Rock Express made a bad habit of finding ways to lose games. However, if games like Saturday night's are any indication, that habit has been kicked.

Tommy Whiteman walked on four pitches by Shane Bazzell with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth to lift the Express to a 1-0 win over the Midland RockHounds in front of 11,765 at The Dell Diamond. The win extends Round Rock's winning streak to four, tying a season high.

The previous nine and a half innings were filled with masterful pitching and several near misses. The greatest chance Round Rock had to score came in the sixth when Michael Rosamond lined a diving drive to right field with the bases loaded that a diving Matt Allegra caught.

Midland threatened several times, most notably the eighth. With two on and one out, Dan Johnson, second in the Texas League in home runs and RBIs, lined the hardest hit ball of the night right at first baseman Jacques Landry. Fortunately for the Express, Landry made the play. Mike Burns then came in and struck out Beau Craig to end the threat.

The only downside was that D.J. Houlton was again denied a win after throwing a masterful seven innings. The Round Rock ace gave up only three hits and struck out a season high ten batters.

Ruddy Lugo (2-10) got the win in relief and Bazzell (3-5) took the loss. The four game series will continue Sunday at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES Reliever Eric Cammack was promoted to Triple-A New Orleans after the game. In 13 games in Round Rock, Cammack had a 0.59 ERA and compiled three saves.
