Nashville Sounds News Release

NASHVILLE — The Nashville offense got started early and never let up as the Sounds took their second straight game against Oklahoma, defeating the RedHawks 11-4 on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium to take over first place in the PCL East division. The win marks the Sounds' fifth in a row overall and 10th in a row at Greer. They hold a half-game lead over the New Orleans Zephyrs.

After Brian Meadows set down the RedHawks in order in the top of first, the Sounds offense got started in the bottom half. Tike Redman started the rally with a single, followed with his PCL-leading 35th swipe, and scored after J.J. Davis walked and Randall Simon laced the first pitch he saw as a Sound down the left-field line for a double. Tony Alvarez – who led Nashville with three hits and three RBI in the contest – continued the rally with a single, scoring Davis. Dave Doster plated the third run of the frame with a single through the legs of RedHawk starter Randy Keisler.

Simon, on rehab from Pittsburgh, went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. He drove in a run and scored two.

After Oklahoma scored two in the third to cut the lead to one, Nashville plated three in its half. Davis led off the inning with a single. Simon moved Davis to third when he executed a perfect hit-and-run, singling through the hole on the left side vacated by shortstop Manny Alexander. Alvarez singled home Davis and Simon scored on a Doster groundout. Mike Gulan reached on a force play and Tomas de la Rosa reached on an infield single to shortstop, with Gulan scoring on Alexander's throwing error on the play.

The Sounds extended their lead to five in the fifth when, with one out, Gulan doubled of the glove of third-baseman G.J. Raymundo and de la Rosa singled up the middle to score Gulan.

Up 7-3 in the eighth, Nashville added four insurance runs with a two-out rally. John Barnes walked before Davis, Chris Snusz, and Alvarez recorded three consecutive doubles. Gulan reached on an infield hit to score Alvarez with the game's final run.

Meadows (5-0) allowed two runs on five hits in his five innings of work to earn the victory. He fanned six and walked none; the right-hander has yet to issue a free pass in 35.0 Triple-A innings this season. Keisler (5-2) took the loss after surrendering six runs on nine hits in only three frames. Duaner Sanchez, who entered a 7-3 contest in the seventh with two runners aboard, tossed the final 2 1/3 innings to notch his first save of the campaign.

The Sounds and RedHawks wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with a 6:00 p.m. contest. All-star right-hander John Wasdin (7-3, 3.28) will oppose Oklahoma right-hander Ryan Drese (3-4, 5.86).
