April 13, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, AL -- Jordan Parraz was the first man to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning and with just one swing of the bat, lifted the Mobile BayBears over the Montgomery Biscuits, 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears won their second straight game with their first walk-off finish in 2014. The victory puts Mobile in a tie with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings, sporting a 6-4 record.
The BayBears were held hitless through the first four innings when Parraz began the fifth frame with a walk and David Peralta followed with a single that put runners at the corners with two outs. Parraz scored in the next at bat on a sacrifice fly to the warning track from Jon Griffin.
Mobile would hold the one-run lead until the seventh when RHP A.J. Schugel exited the game after surrendering a two-out walk. Biscuits left fielder Willie Argo stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then came in to score the tying run on a RBI single from Alejandro Segovia.
The two teams remained tied at one until Parraz homered in the ninth. Schugel was almost unhittable, allowing just one run on two hits, while walking two and striking out six in 6.2 innings. RHP Kaleb Fleck earned the win in relief, shutting out Montgomery over the final two innings.
On Monday, the BayBears continue their home stand when they welcome the Birmingham Barons to town in a rematch of the 2013 Southern League Championship Series. RHP Chase Anderson (2-0) will take the mound for Mobile, while the Barons will counter with RHP Chris Beck. The Chicago White Sox have announced that White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham will join the Barons at Hank Aaron Stadium on a rehab assignment. First pitch between the Barons and BayBears is scheduled for 7:05pm Monday night. Tickets are on sale now by calling 251.479.BEAR or online at MobileBayBears.com.
