Generals Walk-Off with 5-4 Win over M-Braves

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 13, 2014) - Late-game heroics propelled the Jackson Generals (6-4) to an opening homestand series win over the Mississippi Braves (4-6) Sunday at the Ballpark in Jackson. Trailing 4-2 in the eighth inning, the Generals rallied to capture a 5-4 victory on a game winning sacrifice fly by Gabriel Noriega (0-2, R, RBI).

Noriega scored Nate Melendres-who entered the game as a pinch runner for Ramon Morla (2-3, BB)-on a deep fly ball to center field. Morla led off the inning with a double before exiting the game.

Jackson trailed for most of the game as Mississippi scored on an RBI double by David Rohm in the second inning and a solo home run by Barrett Kleinknecht in the third.

Rohm added another RBI in the fourth on a ground out that scored Seth Loman. The M-Braves scored their final run on a balk by starting pitcher Victor Sanchez (0-0).

The 19-year-old right-hander went five innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs before finishing with his second no decision of the season.

The Generals answered the 4-0 deficit as Jabari Blash (1-3, 2 RBI, BB) hit his second home run of the season to score Ketel Marte (0-4, 1 R, SB).

Jackson's bullpen added solid relief pitching in Sunday's win. Jordan Shipers went two innings and allowed a hit and a walk against eight hitters.

Stephen Kolscheen (1-0) earned his first victory of 2014 after a dominant eighth and ninth inning appearance. Kolscheen allowed one hit and recorded two strikeouts against Mississippi's final seven hitters.

The Jackson Generals resume action on Monday, April 14 to begin a five-game road series against the Tennessee Smokies.

The Generals return to the Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday, April 19 to kickoff a homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Ballpark at Jackson will hold a Half-way to Halloween event, Educators Appreciation Night, a Beyond Blame Post-Game Concert and the second fireworks show of the season.
