Birmingham Barons News Release

Pensacola pounded out 13 hits Sunday afternoon, including three by Devin Lohman en route to a 4-3 win over the Birmingham Barons in front of 5,404 fans at Regions Field.

The Barons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, loading the bases and getting a sacrifice fly by Brandon Jacobs and a two-run double by Cody Puckett against Wahoos starter Tim Crabbe (5-8, 3.43).

However, Pensacola would respond with three runs of their own in top of the second, getting RBI hits by Tucker Barnhart and Theo Bow against Michael Nix (3-4, 4.94) to tie the game at 3-3.

The score would remain knotted until the 6th when Penscola would take their first lead of the day, getting a two-out triple by Theo Bowe, which chased Nix from the game. He was replaced by reliever Dan Remenowsky who promptly surrendered a go-ahead ground-rule double to Lohman to give the Wahoos a 4-3 advantage.

Crabbe would settle in, tossing five consecutive scoreless innings. A leadoff single by Puckett in the 7th and a sacrifice bunt by Chris McMurray chased Crabbe from the game with two outs but reliever Parker Frazier retired Tyler Saladino on a groundout to end the inning.

The Barons would never seriously threaten the rest of the way, as Trevor Bell retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season. With the loss, the Barons fell to 68-45 and 24-19 in the second half while Pensacola improved to 46-65 and 21-21 in the second half.

Barons outfielder Brandon Jacobs saw his team-best 17-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-3 day. Saladino and Puckett each finished with two hits apiece in the losing effort.

The Barons will look to even the series tomorrow night as RHP Chris Bassitt (2-1, 3.18) takes the hill against RHP Josh Smith (8-8, 3.86). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
