Pensacola, Fla. - The Blue Wahoos will have three representatives at the Southern League All-Star Game in Birmingham on June 19. Starting pitcher Keury Mella will be joined by right fielder Aristides Aquino and second baseman Shed Long.
Mella led the Southern League in ERA through the month of April and was top 10 in the league through the month of May. He has logged 57 innings over 11 starts with a 3.16 ERA this season. Mella has struck out a team-best 56 batters against just 19 walks while posting a 4-2 record.
Aquino has the fourth-most home runs in the league with a team-best eight. He has driven in 21 runs with a .242 average. The outfielder is tied for the league-lead with six outfield assists.
Long is the leading hitter among Southern League South Division second basemen. He's hitting .258 with six home runs and 22 RBI. Defensively, he leads all Southern League second basemen with a .977 fielding percentage.
The Blue Wahoos will also be represented by the coaching staff. The Blue Wahoos field staff will serve as the South Division coaching staff in Birmingham with Jody Davis managing the team. Davis will be joined by pitching coach James Baldwin, hitting coach Mike Deveraux and bench coach Lenny Harris. Additionally, reigning Southern League Athletic Trainer of the Year Tyler Moos will serve as the South Division athletic trainer.
The game will be played Tuesday, June 19 at Regions Field in Birmingham.
