Mobile BayBears News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, had their second eight-run inning of the season and pulled away from the Chattanooga Lookouts early in a 17-4 win Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Field.
Jose Rojas, Connor Justus, and Brennon Lund all had two-run doubles in the third inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit. Lund had his third consecutive three-hit game, with three RBIs and two runs scored. Rojas matched his career-high with four hits, along with Riley Unroe. Unroe has a multi-hit game in all four games of the series.
Joe Gatto (1-2) earned his first Double-A win for the BayBears (32-26), while Anthony Marzi (0-4) took the loss. Gatto gave up four runs on three hits in five innings pitched. Adrian Almeida, Conor Lillis-White, and Greg Mahle combined to keep Chattanooga (33-26) off the board for the final four frames.
Zach Gibbons and Jared Walsh both added two-run homers in the fifth and ninth, respectively. It was the first of the year for Gibbons and Walsh's 17th total, combined between Mobile and Inland Empire.
With wins in three of the first four games at Chattanooga, the BayBears have clinched their sixth straight series victory. Wednesday's 17-run barrage was the largest offensive output by a Mobile squad since July 15, 2016 at Chattanooga.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game road series against Chattanooga Thursday at 6:15 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning (1-0, 1.50 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Mobile. Live coverage can be heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
The BayBears return home Friday and host a total of 70 home dates through Labor Day, September 3. Single-game tickets and ticket packages are currently on sale. Group and hospitality offerings for the 2018 season can be reserved by calling (251) 479-BEAR (2327).
