Adelanto, CA. - Five early runs backed Konner Wade in the Modesto Nuts 5-4 win against the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday night at Heritage Field.
Wade (W, 3-6) worked seven innings in the Nuts' (40-40; 7-3) win to secure a series victory and give the Nuts a chance for a sweep on Monday night against the Mavs (40-40; 3-7). Wade struck out eight and did not walk a batter. The righty surrendered a two-run homer in the fourth and a RBI groundout in the fifth.
The Nuts got to Reed Garrett (L, 2-2) early. Three straight singles helped bring in two runs in the first. In the second, the Nuts plated three more runs. Jordan Patterson had a pair of RBI. Raimel Tapia had two hits and drove in a run as well.
Matt Carasiti (S, 4/5) walked two, gave up a run and a single in the ninth, but was able to strand the tying and winning runs in scoring position to secure the Nuts' victory.
The finale of the three-game set against the Mavs is set for Monday night. First pitch is a 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
