SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Giants posted a 5-2 victory over Visalia on Sunday night at Municipal Stadium to even their series with the Rawhide at a game apiece. The Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings and never trailed in the contest while the San Jose bullpen held Visalia without a hit over the last three frames to close out the win.

Seth Harrison (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, SB) and Daniel Carbonell (2-for-4, 2B) produced two hits apiece to lead the Giants offensively.

Tyler Rogers (3-1) was credited with the win out of the San Jose bullpen after tossing hitless seventh and eighth innings. Jake Smith then pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth for his second save of the year. Giants starter Chase Johnson struck out six and allowed just one run over the first four innings.

San Jose took the early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Harrison led off with a single and stole second with one out. Jeff Kobernus then lined a single into left center plating Harrison with the first run of the night.

The Giants extended their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning began with a single up the middle off the bat of John Polonius. A wild pitch advanced Polonius to second before Jeff Arnold's groundout to shortstop advanced the runner to third. Harrison then stepped to the plate and doubled into the left field corner to score Polonius for a 2-0 lead. The rally continued with a two-out walk to Kobernus before Angel Villalona ripped an RBI single into left to make it 3-0.

Johnson began his night with three scoreless innings as the Rawhide stranded a runner at third base in each of the first two frames. Johnson struck out the side in the top of the second before two more punchouts in a 1-2-3 third inning. Visalia then broke through with a run against Johnson in the top of the fourth. A walk to Daniel Palka started the inning before Jamie Westbrook singled to put runners on first and second. After Johnson retired the next two hitters, Stryker Trahan drew a full-count walk to load the bases. Breland Almadova was up next and he beat out a slow roller to deep shortstop for an infield single. The hit scored a run to trim the Giants lead to 3-1. Johnson though recovered to set down the next hitter, Mitch Haniger, on a groundout to third to end the inning. Johnson threw 86 pitches during his four innings of work.

San Jose immediately got the run back in the bottom of the fourth as Carbonell led off with a double to deep right center and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Brian Ragira struck out, Polonius hit a grounder to the drawn-in shortstop Domingo Leyba. Leyba fielded the ball cleanly, but his low throw home was late as Carbonell slid safely to extend the Giants lead to 4-1.

Luis Ysla (2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) entered from the bullpen for San Jose to begin the top of the fifth. With one out, Ysla plunked Kevin Cron and then Ryan Hutchison smacked an RBI double into deep left center to cut the lead to 4-2. Ysla did comeback to retire Westbrook on a groundout before Alex Glenn struck out to keep the lead at two runs.

The Giants then scored their final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth. Christian Arroyo led off by drawing a walk before stealing second with one out. Then with two down, Brandon Bednar grounded a single into left to score Arroyo for a 5-2 cushion.

Ysla returned to the mound for the top of the sixth and pitched around a two-out single to maintain the three-run advantage. In the seventh, Rogers issued a two-out walk, but quickly retired the next hitter to end the inning. Rogers then needed just seven pitches - all strikes - to work a 1-2-3 top of the eighth. With the score still 5-2, Smith pitched the top of the ninth and set down the Rawhide in order on a strikeout, a foul pop out and a ground out.

Visalia starter R.J. Hively (0-1) suffered the loss after yielding four runs (all earned) on seven hits over four innings. He walked one, struck out seven and threw three wild pitches.
