Plymouth, Massachusetts - In the battle of two first place teams, the Vermont Mountaineers defeated the Plymouth Pilgrims 2-1 in Thursday night New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) action at Forges Field. The Mountaineers scored the winning run in the twelfth inning. With the win, Vermont maintains its one and a half game lead over the Sanford Mainers in the Northern Division.

After Trey West (Le Moyne) walked to set up first and second, Mike Krische (Canisius) delivered the game-winning hit, an RBI single, scoring Amburgey from second to give Vermont a 2-1 lead.
Pitching was the story of the game, as each team's starter pitched a gem. Ty Wiest (Columbia) dealt seven strong innings for the Mountaineers. Wiest allowed just one run on two hits and no walks. He struck out five. The only run the right-hander allowed was a solo homerun off the bat of Plymouth designated hitter Matt Walsh (Franklin Pierce) in the fifth.

Vermont trailed 1-0 until the ninth, when they tied the game. Chandler Brock (Alabama-Huntsville) led off the inning with an infield single. Two batters later, Mike Vigliarolo (St. Louis) doubled to set the stage at second and third with one out. Ian Sagdal (Washington State) hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Brock to score the tying run from third.
Jordan Doyle (St. Petersburg) and Jared Gesell (UNCW) combined to pitch the final five innings for Vermont. Doyle dealt an inning and one-third, giving up no runs on one hit and one walk. Gesell earned his first win of the summer, improving to 1-2. Gesell went three and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs, no hits and three walks. He struck out five.
Vigliarolo had one of his best offensive outings of the summer, collecting four hits (three doubles) in five at bats.
