
Voyagers Notch First Road Win

Billings, MT - The Voyagers snapped a four-game losing streak and posted their first road win of the season with a 6-4 series-opening victory over Billings Monday night at Dehler Park.
Great Falls (4-6) opened the scoring right away in their first at-bat of the night. Ian Dawkins led off with a single whipped into left. Dawkins later advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Romy Gonzalez singled on the ground into center and drove in Dawkins for an early lead.
The Voyagers sent seven men to the plate in a three-run 3rd for a 4-0 advantage. Ian Dawkins reached on a bunt single to third. Lenyn Sosa followed with a line drive single to right-center. Logan Sowers then doubled deep to the wall in right and plated Dawkins. With runners at second and third, Romy Gonzalez singled to center again and drove in both Sosa and Sowers.
Billings (3-6) scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the 4th. Pabel Manzanero reached on a two-out error at first. Jake Turnbull singled to right. Bren Spillane brought Manzanero home with a base hit lined into right.
Great Falls took a 6-1 lead with two more in the 5th. Ian Dawkins led off with a walk. Lenyn Sosa reached on an infield error. Both runners moved up to second and third on a wild pitch. Logan Sowers singled to center for his second RBI of the night. After a pitching change, Amado Nunez brought the second run in on an infield single.
The Mustangs scored the game's final three runs. In the home half of the 5th, Brandt Stallings led off with a single to left. Stallings scored on a groundout by Carlos Rivero. Drew Mount cut the Voyagers lead to 6-4 with a two-run single to right in the 6th.
On the mound, Michael McCormick reeled in his third win in as many relief outings. McCormick (3-0) worked two-and-a-third and gave up one hit with two strikeouts. Ricardo Smith took the loss. Smith (0-2) pitched four innings and surrendered six runs (five earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Bennett Sousa picked up his first save for Great Falls. Sousa allowed a base hit in the 9th but struck out two. Starter Jonathan Stiever was electric again in his second three-inning start. Stiever struck out six and walked just one. In six innings over two starts, the 5th round draft pick out of Indiana has struck out 12 without allowing a hit or a run. He has walked just two.
At the plate, Ian Dawkins went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Logan Sowers extended his hitting streak to nine with two more hits and two RBIs. Romy Gonzalez collected two hits and three RBIs.
Great Falls continues its six-game road trip with the second of three at Billings Tuesday night. First pitch at Dehler Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Voyagers return home on Thursday, June 28th for a four-game home stand.
