PITCHING KEYS VOYAGER WIN
Great Falls made it back-to-back victories over Helena Thursday night, hanging on to take last night's game 3-2. After Helena tallied an early run against Voyager starter Matt Ball, Louie Lechich hit a two-run homer to dead center for his first career blast to put the Voyagers in front. After the Brewers tied it in the fifth, some shaky Helena defense in the bottom of the inning led to Jake Peter scoring the game's decisive run. The Great Falls bullpen took it from there, tossing four scoreless innings to close it out.
BALL COLLECTS FIRST WIN
Right-hander Matt Ball turned in a solid outing for Great Falls last night, lasting five innings for the third straight start, and allowing one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. The Bonita, Calif., native lasted long enough to earn the win for Great Falls, giving him his first victory as a professional. The righty also lowered his home ERA to 3.00 with last night's effort.
VOYAGING TO THE 'PEN
After going through a rough patch during the Voyagers recent losing streak, the bullpen has been back in a big way the last two nights, tossing seven scoreless innings with one hit allowed, no walks, and 13 strikeouts. Last night, Grant Monroe gave Great Falls two scoreless frames with three strikeouts, Devon Davis struck out the side in the eighth in his Voyager debut, and Charlie Sharrer spun a perfect ninth with one strikeout to earn his first save of the 2014 season. The collective bullpen ERA is now down to 3.30.
STONE-ING THE COMPETITION
Righty Dane Stone will get the ball tonight for the Voyagers, making his fourth start of the year. The Miami, Fla., native has not given up more than two runs in any start and his 2.20 ERA is good for third among qualifying starters in the league coming into today. He's coming off his first quality start of the year in which he set a new career-high with seven strikeouts.
