VOYAGERS SWEPT IN HELENA
Carlos Belonis hit a walk-off single with two outs in the ninth Monday, giving the Brewers a four-game sweep of the Voyagers with a their 3-2 win. It was a struggle for both offenses for much of the night, as neither team scored until a Johan Cruz solo home run in the fourth. Helena leveled things up in the fifth as Milan Post drove in a run with a single, then took the lead in the seventh when Mitch Ghelfi scored on a wild pitch. The lead did not last long, as Grant Massey came in to score in the eighth on an error. Ghelfi led the ninth off with a double, getting to third on a wild pitch. After loading the bases and getting two outs, Danny Dopico then allowed the walk-off single to Belonis.
FAMILIAR FOES
With their season series wrapping up against Helena last night, the Voyagers have just two teams remaining on their schedule for their final 14 games of the season. Billings comes in first for a four-game set that begins tonight. Great Falls will then have eight straight against Missoula, before finishing up with two more against the Mustangs.Â
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Voyagers return home tonight to begin a four-game series against Billings, their closest rival for the second Pioneer League North playoff spot. Missoula took the first half to clinch a spot in the playoffs, and with the Osprey also leading the division in the second half, the second playoff spot in the division would be a wild card team if Missoula claims both halves. Entering tonight, Great Falls leads Billings in that race, up one and a half games by virtue of their overall record. It has been a struggle for the Voyagers against the Mustangs so far this season, as they have dropped six of the first nine meetings. The two split the four first half meetings at Centene Stadium.
BACK TO BANKS
To try and end their four-game slide, Great Falls will turn to All-Star lefty Tanner Banks. The southpaw's 2.21 ERA is the second-lowest among qualified Pioneer league hurlers this year, trailing only Billings lefty Ty Boyles. The former Utah Ute leads the league in WHIP at 0.98, and his opponent's batting average against is the third-lowest at .239.
