VooDoo plans fun-filled experience for Saturday's game against Georgia Force
March 24, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release
When the New Orleans VooDoo faces off against the Georgia Force on Saturday, March 26 in the New Orleans Arena at 7 p.m., fans can expect an exciting, interactive experience leading up to the game and through its conclusion.
The 6-2 VooDoo will be facing the 6-2 Force in an important Southern Division matchup. Both teams play in a hotly contested division where four of the five teams have winning records. Following wins in five of their last six contests, including an impressive 46-40 win over the Chicago Rush on the road last Sunday, the VooDoo currently stand in a first place tie in the Southern Division with the Force. Saturday's battle will be for the first place standing in the division. In a show of respect around the league for both teams and Saturday's match up, the VooDoo hold the second place slot in the Arena Football Writers Association "Top 8" poll, while Georgia holds the top spot.
Saturday's game will feature a great deal of familiarity in the match up. New Orleans Saints and VooDoo owner Tom Benson and Atlanta Falcons and Force owner Arthur M. Blank are fellow NFL owners whose teams have been fierce rivals in the same division for 35 years and have played each other 70 times. Now both Benson's and Blank's NFL and AFL franchises face each other twice a year annually in each league's Southern Division. Georgia won the first meeting between the VooDoo and the Force 46-44 on January 30 in the season opener for both teams at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
At halftime of the game, there will be 35 men and women who have chosen to re-enlist in the U.S. Army and will be sworn in by Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Clear, commander of New Orleans' U.S. Army recruiting battalion.
Plenty of tickets remain for Friday's game with several pricing and seating options available. The VooDoo has a special promotion available for this game, where for $19, fans will be able to purchase an upper level seat and also receive an embroidered VooDoo baseball cap...a $30 value. In order to accommodate fans, the New Orleans Saints tickets offices at 5800 Airline Drive and at the Louisiana Superdome will be open on Good Friday until 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. â 1 p.m.
The Georgia game will not be on television, but it can be heard on WSMB 1350-AM. Chris Kenyon will handle play-by-play, New Orleans Saints defensive end and former University of Georgia star Charles Grant will serve as guest color analyst and Kenny Wilkerson will be the sideline reporter.
