
Volstad Steady, Bullpen Shaky in Game 1 Loss to Clippers

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Clippers scored five runs over the final two innings, capped by a game-winning homer from Audy Ciriaco in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Indianapolis Indians, 6-5, in Game 1 of the Governors' Cup championship Tuesday night at Huntington Park.
The two IL West division champions will now play a final game in Columbus tomorrow before concluding the series at Victory Field, beginning Thursday (7:05 p.m.).
The Tribe led 5-1 in the seventh before Columbus rallied to tie the game. Erik Gonzalez doubled home a run, Zach Walters plated two with a two-out single and Adam Moore drew the Clippers even on an RBI double off the right field wall.
Ciriaco then cleared the fences to lead off the eighth.
Indians starter Chris Volstad held Columbus in check with six innings of one-run ball. He scattered six singles while matching a season-high total of seven strikeouts.
Through four postseason games, the Tribe's rotation has posted a 0.69 ERA with two earned runs over 26 innings.
