Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (30-35, 9-18) fell to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (33-32, 13-14) by a final score of 5-3 on Wednesday night. Boise has now lost their last eight series and they are 2-4 so far on the 11-game road trip.

Boise scored in the first inning in all three games of the series. After LJ Hatch drew a four-pitch walk, Luke Morgan smacked a double into the gap to score Hatch and give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

Boise starter Alec Byrd had not allowed a run in his last 11 innings-pitched, but Salem-Keizer came up with a big first inning. Diego Rincones singled and Joey Bart hit one deep into centerfield that resulted in an error on Boise's Cole Anderson. With runners on second and third base for the Volcanoes, David Villar doubled to score two and give Salem-Keizer an early 2-1 advantage.

Immediately following Villars double, Wander Franco hit his 4th home run of the year to quickly make it 4-1 Salem-Keizer. Later in the inning, Robinson Medrano came up and hit a solo home run, his 9th of the year, to make it 5-1 Volcanoes.

Jeff Bohling came up in the 4th inning for the Hawks and hit his 4th home run of the season. A solo home run made it just a 5-2 lead for the Volcanoes.

Alec Byrd settled down on the mound for Boise as he would not allow a run the rest of the way. Byrd finishes with five innings-pitched, five runs, but only three were earned and he tallies five strikeouts while he picks up the loss.

Boise got three straight singles to start the 8th inning, as Daniel Jipping had the third hit to knock in Morgan, and make it a 5-3 game. That was the only run the Hawks could produce in the frame.

Boise came up in the 9th inning, but couldn't get a run against closer Jesus Tona despite a Kennard McDowell double, and the Hawks fall 5-3 as Boise drops the series.

The Hawks will continue their annual 11-game road trip and will head to Vancouver, British Columbia as they go north of the border to take on the Vancouver Canadians. First pitch will be at 8:05 p.m. MT on 101.5 KOOL-FM. The Hawks will return home on Wednesday, August 29th to take on the Hillsboro Hops. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
