Everett, WA - Everett concluded their series against the Spokane Indians Wednesday night with a narrow one-run victory, 2-1. Spokane was held to just six hits, scoring their lone run in the second inning.
The AquaSox jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning. All-Star, Josh Stowers knocked a leadoff single to right field. Stowers then stole second base, his 13th stolen base of the season. Stowers leads the team in stolen bases. Connor Kopach's RBI ground out helped Stowers successfully round the bases, 1-0 AquaSox.
Spokane countered the Everett score with a run of their own in the top of the second inning. Starling Joseph collected his 26th RBI of the season, a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Diosbel Arias from third base. It was the only flaw on an otherwise outstanding performance by AquaSox starter Orlando Razo.
Everett took the lead back in the third inning. Kopach got the inning off to a hot start, legging out a triple on the third pitch he saw. Bobby Honeyman grounded out on the next at-bat, bringing Kopach home safely. No more runs would score in the inning and, as it turned out, the AquaSox would have to hold on to a one-run lead for the rest of the contest.
The last time AquaSox fans saw Razo he pitched six innings and allowed only one hit. Wednesday's outing wasn't an exact replica, but it was equally as impressive. This time, Razo lasted five innings, allowing one run off four hits. Razo brought his season strikeout total to 54, the most of any AquaSox pitcher.
Grant Springer and Nolan Hoffman held a tight grip on the game between the sixth and eighth innings. Springer took over for Razo in the top of the sixth, his first outing at Everett Memorial Stadium. Springer had a strong performance, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. Hoffman entered the game in the eighth inning and retired the side.
It was then up to Alabama native, J.T. Salter to seal the win for the AquaSox. Salter came in clutch for Everett, logging his first save as a member of the AquaSox. The game would conclude, 2-1 AquaSox.
The Everett AquaSox will head out on an eight-game road trip Thursday, taking on the Hillsboro Hops and the Vancouver Canadians. When they return it will be the final series of the season. Everett will play four games against the Tri-City Dust Devils. Saturday, September 1 will be a doubleheader as the two teams will make up for a cancellation on August 19. They will play two, seven-inning games beginning at 6:05 PM. There are several promotions for the homestand including, Overdose Prevention Night, Back to School Night, and Fan Appreciation Afternoon.
