Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, WA - The legendary Voice of the Spokane Indians Bob Robertson will be taking a leave of absence from radio play-by-play this summer. Robertson will be spending time with his wife, Joanne, at their home in Tacoma as she recovers from health issues.

"Bob Robertson will always have a lifetime contract with the Spokane Indians", said Indians Senior Vice President Otto Klein. "We can't wait to see Bob back up in the Avista Stadium press box next season."

Robertson joined the Spokane Indians in 1999 and has been the Indians radio broadcaster ever since. He has broadcasted Washington State University football for the past 42 years and was the play-by-play voice of the Tacoma Rainers for 16 seasons. Robertson is a 12-time winner of the Washington State Sportscaster of the Year award.

Bob Castle of Radio Spokane will fill in on an interim basis for Robertson until he returns. Castle is the program director for the Spokane Indians flagship station, 1510 KGA Everything Sports.

"I am honored and happy to keep the seat warm for Bob Robertson until his wife is feeling better", said Castle.

Castle is no stranger to Spokane Indians baseball or sports broadcasting in general. He filled in for Robertson at times last season and is the voice of Whitworth University football and basketball. Castle has also broadcasted for Gonzaga University baseball, University of Idaho basketball, and others.

The Indians will kick off the 2009 season with Opening Night Fireworks and AAA Magnet Schedule Giveaway on June 20th at 6:30 p.m. , presented by Les Schwab Tires, KREM 2-TV, 93.7 The Cat, and Sports Radio 1510 KGA. Season ticket and mini-season ticket packages are on sale now, along with single game tickets. For more information call (509) 343-OTTO (6886) or visit www.spokaneindiansbaseball.com.
