Vital game for Roughnecks
April 7, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - For varying reasons, a win in tomorrow night's game between the Calgary Roughnecks and the Arizona Sting is vital for both clubs.
Arizona (6-7) is in a dogfight with San Jose (5-7) for the final playoff spot in the National Lacrosse League's West Division, while the Riggers (8-5) are vying with Colorado and Portland (both also at 8-5) for just two home berths in the post season.
"I'm looking forward to a really exciting game," said Roughnecks General Manager Kurt Silcott. "Arizona is a quality team as evidenced by the fact they made it to the final of the Champion's Cup last year.
"With stars such as Dan Dawson (64 points) and Craig Conn (59 points) leading their offence, we will have our work cut out for us against this talented squad."
Silcott continued, "Over-all, I think our offences are evenly matched. But I believe we have the edge on at the back end and hopefully our defence can keep them to 10 goals or less. If that happens, I'm confident our offence and transition will be able to score more than that."
Calgary has only three games remaining in the regular season - against Arizona tomorrow (Saturday) and then twice versus Colorado in a home and home series next weekend (April 14 and 15).
"A goal of ours all season has been to be in a position where we can control our destiny when it comes playoff time," said Silcott.
"We have done that, now we have to complete the mission by taking first place in the West and securing home field advantage so that our great fans get to watch us when it matters most."
He added, "We know the Saddledome can be an intimidating place when you're a visitor and we're striving for that edge in the post season."
Ball drop tomorrow night (Saturday, April 8) is at 7.30 p.m.
