Win Puts Jax First In West Division

Portland defeated San Jose tonight at the HP Pavilion 9-6. The Jax defense held San Jose scoreless throughout the first quarter, and Dallas Eliuk tallied 39 saves during the game. Portland's Mike Hominuck came up with a hat trick tonight and Ryan Sharp scored twice. With the victory, Portland improves to 9-5, which gives the expansion team the top record in the West Division.

The game got off to a slow start with only two goals scored in the first quarter, both by the Jax (Richard Morgan and Ryan Sharp). The Jax continued to keep San Jose scoreless, with 18 saves in the first half by Eliuk. Portland scored two more goals in the second quarter by Luke Forget and Mike Hominuck. This is the first time the Jax have kept a team scoreless for a half, and it is also the lowest scoring half Portland has played this season. By halftime, the game was already filled with 26 penalty minutes over 13 offenses.

The Jax continued their scoring run in the third quarter with second goals by Ryan Sharp and Mike Hominuck. San Jose went on a four goal scoring run to end the third quarter with the Jax up by two, 6-4. Luke Wiles, Cam Sedgwick, and Ryan Boyle were San Jose's scorers in the third; Boyle scored twice. The score stayed close throughout the fourth quarter with San Jose staying within two points of Portland until Brodie Merrill scored into an empty net for the final goal of the night.

The LumberJax will play their last regular season home game on Friday, April 14 at 7:30p against Edmonton. The game will be broadcast live on KCMD 970AM.
