THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... continue their homestand this evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Visalia Rawhide at Municipal Stadium. San Jose won two out of three games from the visiting Stockton Ports in their most recent series. After suffering a 9-6 loss to the Ports last Saturday, the Giants posted a 7-1 victory on Sunday before a thrilling 6-5 win last night. In yesterday's game, Wendell Fairley hit a bases loaded single with none out in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the winning run. Jose Flores finished 3- for-5 at the plate to lead a 15-hit offensive attack. Ryan Verdugo was credited with the victory after tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Starter Oliver Odle matched a season-high with seven innings and allowed three runs.

Media Coverage... The games on Tuesday and Wednesday will be televised live on Comcast Hometown Network, Channel 104 with Joe Ritzo and Dan Dibley handling the play-by-play and color commentary duties respectively. The entire series can also be heard live on www.sjgiants.com .

Winning Ways... After a season-high six-game losing streak from August 11-18, the Giants have won four out of their last five. Over the last five games, San Jose is hitting .344 as a team and averaging seven runs per contest.

Rare Home Series Win... Last night's victory over Stockton gave the Giants only their second home series win of the second half. San Jose also swept the Ports at Municipal Stadium from August 3-5. The Giants are just 9-16 at home since the All-Star break.

Flores File... Infielder Jose Flores knocked out three more hits last night and is batting at a .443 clip (27-for-61) with three home runs (two grand slams) and 15 RBI's over his last 15 games. Flores' season batting average now stands at a team-best .333. Flores is currently eight plate appearances shy of qualifying for the league-leaders in batting average. He would currently rank second in the California League in hitting. The versatile player has started games at third base, shortstop, second base, left field and right field this season.

San Jose Leads Division By Four Games... The Giants (69-57) possess a four-game lead over the Modesto Nuts (65-61), Stockton Ports (65-61) and Visalia Rawhide (65-61) for the top overall record in the North Division. Home field advantage (hosting Game Five) in the North Division Series will be awarded to the team with the best overall record that's won a half.

Monell Extends Hitting Streak To Nine Games... Catcher Johnny Monell finished 2-for-5 last night to extend his hitting streak to nine games. During the hit streak, Monell is batting .433 (13-for-30). After hitting just .220 with five home runs in the first half, Monell is batting .335 with 12 home runs during the second half.

Giants-Rawhide Season Series... San Jose currently owns an 11-8 advantage over Visalia in the season series. Last week, the Giants and Rawhide split a four-game series at Recreation Park. San Jose has won five out of six games against Visalia at Municipal Stadium this season. The Giants are hitting .321 versus Rawhide pitching - their highest batting average against an opponent this year. Individually, Jose Flores (.476, 20-for-42, 11 RBI) has been the top performer against Visalia.

Stolen Base Leaders... The Giants have recorded 192 stolen bases this season - tops in the California League. They're currently five steals in front of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (184) for the league lead. Individually, Francisco Peguero (38, 3rd) and Ehire Adrianza (29, 4th) both rank among the top four in the league.

Stoffel's Saves... Relief pitcher Jason Stoffel has converted his last 11 save opportunities dating back to July 7. In 17 relief appearances during that span, Stoffel possesses a 2.76 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings. His 23 saves this season are fifth in the California League and tops in the San Francisco Giants farm system.

San Jose Wins League Record Sixth Consecutive First Half Title... The San Jose Giants won their California League record sixth consecutive first half North Division title this season. The Giants finished the first half with a 45-25 mark - eight games ahead of both the Modesto Nuts (37-33) and Visalia Rawhide (37-33). By virtue of winning the first half, San Jose secures a berth in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The Giants have won three league championships (2005, 2007, 2009) in the last five seasons and will be attempting to win back-to-back titles for the first time in franchise history this September. San Jose will open the playoffs on Saturday, September 11 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series. The previous league record for consecutive first half division titles was three (Visalia).

Visalia Rawhide... The Visalia Rawhide, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, enter tonight's action with an overall record of 65-61 - tied with the Modesto Nuts for the wild card lead in the North Division. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt leads the California League in home runs (33), doubles (35, tied) and is second in RBI's (96). Left-hander Dan Taylor is slated to make the start on the mound tonight. Taylor is 6-6 with a 6.45 ERA in 16 starts this season.
