Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - One of the legends of baseball history will be a guest on the JetHawks Clubhouse Show Wednesday evening at 5 PM on CSN @ JetHawks.com. Rickey Henderson, a Hall of Fame member who has more stolen bases than any player in Major League history, will appear along with JetHawks Chairman Peter Carfagna and Bobby Heck, the Scouting Director for the Houston Astros. While the show airs live, it is available for download at any time at the podcast page by visiting JetHawks.com/csn.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009, Rickey Henderson played 25 seasons in the Major Leagues and is widely considered to be the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. With 1,406 stolen bases, he finished his career more than 400 steals past the next player on the all-time list. Originally drafted by the Athletics, Henderson starred with Oakland (three times), the New York Yankees, Toronto, San Diego (two times), Anaheim, the New York Mets, Seattle, Boston, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a lifetime batting average of .279 with 297 home runs.

In his current role as a special instructor of the Oakland A's, Henderson works with both their Major League and minor league players. In his interview with JetHawks broadcaster Jeff Lasky, Henderson will explain what made him stand out as a base stealer and how he works with younger players to learn the art of stealing. He will also talk about his time playing in the California League, including telling the behind-the-scenes story of how he came to set the Cal League record with seven stolen bases in one game.

Henderson is the second Major League Baseball Hall of Famer to appear on the JetHawks Clubhouse Show in the last two seasons, following Dodger legend Tommy Lasorda's appearance in 2009.

JetHawks Chairman Peter Carfagna will come on the show to talk about the organization's success in 2010 and plans for future seasons. He will also explain the "affiliation process" in which a minor league team like the JetHawks becomes affiliated with a Major League team like the Astros.

With the 2010 draft and signing process completed, Astros Scouting Director Bobby Heck will stop by to discuss some of the players selected this summer that will likely be JetHawks players in the next few years. He'll also talk about the overall philosophy he has helped instill that has improved the Astros farm system in recent seasons.

Fans will also have a chance to win a Family Fun Pack that includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks, and a trip to the Fun Zone for the final Fireworks Friday night of the season. This giveaway will take place during JetHawks trivia.

The final homestand of the regular season begins Tuesday, August 31. Highlights include bobblehead giveaways, a long sleeve t-shirt giveaway, poster giveaways, fireworks, and Fan Appreciation Weekend. To order tickets online, visit JetHawks.com. To order by phone, call (661) 726-5400.
