Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(HIGH DESERT, CA) - The High Desert Mavericks finally figured out how to keep the Lancaster JetHawks offense in check Monday night. The Mavs jumped out early against Lancaster starter Leandro Cespedes, then held the JetHawks to just three runs in a 10-3 High Desert win. Lancaster ends up winning two out of three games in the series and remains in fourth place, just two games out of first with 14 games left.
The Mavericks got off to a hot start early. Johermyn Chavez hit his 31st home run of the season, a two-run blast, in the first inning and they never trailed after that. The Mavs added four more runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead.
Ashton Mowdy threw three and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the JetHawks to give his team a chance to bounce back. RBI hits by Brandon Barnes and Brian Pellegrini in the third inning put Lancaster on the scoreboard and a solo home run by Jonathan Villar got them to within three runs in the sixth. However, the Mavericks jumped on the JetHawks bullpen for four more runs over the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win.
Barnes doubled three times for Lancaster, giving him 30 for the season. Brandon Wikoff continued his strong hitting with a pair of singles.
The JetHawks road trip continues Tuesday night as the club travels to Lake Elsinore. Ross Seaton (6-11) will pitch for Lancaster against Rob Musgrave (2-3) of the Storm. The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. The Pre-Game Show begins at 7:00.
