
Vipers Winning Streak Snapped by Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (11-5), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, fell 119-130 to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (7-10) on Tuesday night at Sanford Arena.
At the beginning of the first quarter the Vipers struggled to get the rhythm flowing as Sioux Falls led 4-11, but with 5:16 remaining on the clock RGV tied the game 18-18. For the next two minutes it would be a back and forth battle for the lead. However, with 3:06 remaining in the quarter the Vipers took control and sent the game 31-26 into the second quarter.
The biggest lead of the night for RGV was during the second quarter when the Vipers extended its lead over Sioux Falls by 15 points with a score of 70-55. Going into halftime Sioux Falls would narrow the Vipers lead by nine points resulting in a score of 70-61.
Sioux Falls turned up the heat in the third quarter. With 3:47 still on the clock the home team managed to close the visiting teams lead by three points with a score of 87-84, but the Skyforce did not stop there. With 3:22 still left in the quarter DJ Stewart tied the game for Sioux Falls 87-87. The home team kept the momentum going and managed to take the lead of the game 94-91 over the visiting team.
As the game rolled into the fourth quarter both teams were fighting for control of the game. Sioux Falls was ahead in the game, but not for long as the Vipers offense rolled in and took a one-point lead with 10:50 still on the clock. However, Sioux Falls turned up the momentum and took a 118-106 lead over RGV. For the remainder of the game the Skyforce extended its lead and grasped a 130-119 win over the Vipers.
Gerald Green led the Vipers with 27 points and nine rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee Daishen Nix obtained a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Foster totaled 18 points. Anthony Lamb (nine rebounds), Mfiondu Kabengele (six rebounds) and Christian Vital each scored 14 points.
The lead scorer of the game was Sioux Falls Javonte Smart with 40 points and six assists. Micah Potter hit 32 points and eight rebounds. Stewart posted 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Mike Smith came off the bench to add 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Mario Chalmers contributed 10 points and six assists to the team.
RGV returns to Sanford Pentagon once more to take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday, February 17. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
