The Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the NBA Development League (D-League) announced today that they will hold a press conference on Wednesday September 17th to introduce their new Team President Brian Michael Cooper to the media and basketball fans of the Rio Grande Valley. Cooper, along with members of the Vipers ownership group will be available for comment at the press conference. The media event will emanate from Peppers at Uptown in McAllen and will begin promptly at 2:00 pm.
Brian Michael Cooper's experience in professional sports is second to none. Cooper began his career as a legal intern for the National Football League and has spent the last 12 years of his career at law firms in New York and Houston where he has worked on matters such as the NBA lockout, an anti-trust suit against Major League Soccer, and a suit against the National Hockey League. Cooper is also a certified player agent and contract advisor with the National Football League Players Association and the National Basketball Player Association. He has worked in the negotiation of player contracts and in endorsement agreements and has devised marketing strategies in both sports and entertainment.
Cooper received his law degree from Columbia law school in New York. He began his collegiate career at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he received his Bachelors degree with a concentration in Government and Philosophy. He later received is Masters Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, MA. Cooper is also a member of both the New York State Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.
Peppers at Uptown is located on 4620 North 10th Street in McAllen. Members of the media attending the press conference are encouraged to RSVP to the event.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are professional basketball team in the NBA Development League (NBA D-League). The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league and features 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams. The league has produced 15 percent of the players on 2007-08 end-of-season NBA rosters and continues to develop current NBA coaches and referees. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote youth basketball, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. The Vipers NBA affiliates are the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Hornets. The Vipers second season begins on November 28th at Dodge Arena when they host the Tulsa 66ers.
