Vipers take series with blowout win

CALGARY, AB - The St. George RoadRunners dropped its first series of the 2009 season after a 13-3 loss of to the Calgary Vipers at Foothills Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Vipers took two out of three in the series featuring the Golden Baseball League's two division leaders.

Monte Mansfield took the loss (1-1) allowing 10 runs on 13 hits in 4.2 innings. Viper starter Hideki Nagasaki moved to 2-0 scattering two runs on eight hits in his six innings.

Angel Sanchez knocked in two of the three St. George runs. He doubled in the first to score Ryan Stevenson and slugged a solo homer (5) with two outs in the fifth inning.

A sacrifice fly by Brad Netzel plated Cody Nowlin for the RoadRunners' final run.

Calgary used two big innings to pull away. A four-run third inning was highlighted by 1B Clint Johnston's two-run single. Former OC Flyer, Mark Okano blasted a three-run home run to cap the Vipers' six runs in the fifth frame.

Drew Miller and Ivan Reyes each added a solo shot.

The Vipers handed the RoadRunners their worst loss of 2009 blasting 20 hits. St. George rapped 10 hits led by Stevenson and Sanchez with two hits apiece.

St. George has Thursday off before returning home to begin a six-game homestand. Tucson makes their first appearance at Bruce Hurst Field beginning Friday. David Seccombe gets the start against the Toros. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the Infowest Pre-Game Show with the voice of the RoadRunners, John Potter.
