RHP Jose Lima and OF Fehlandt Lentini Named GBL Players of the Week

June 11, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release

San Ramon, CA June 9, 2009: The Golden Baseball League announced today that Long Beach Armada RHP Jose Lima and Calgary Vipers OF Fehlandt Lentini have been named GBL Players of the Week for the second week of the 2009 season for games played between June 1st and June 7th.

Lentini, 31, 6-0, 185, was an original Calgary Viper in 2005 and returns to the team this season after two all-star years in the Northern League for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Picking up right where he left off, the lead-off hitting centerfielder is leading the Vipers in hitting and runs scored and is atop a number of offensive categories at the league level as well. Even though the Vipers lost two games last week due to snow, Lentini had a spectacular five games as he led the GBL in hitting at .545 as he went 12 for 22 at the plate. He also led the league in runs scored for the week with 9 and was key to the Vipers catching and passing the Chico Outlaws and into first place in the North Division.

Lima, 36, 6-2, 200 furthered his case for serious consideration by a major league organization as he threw the first complete game shutout in the Golden Baseball League this season. He gave up just six hits, retired the last 14 batters and used just 89 pitches to carve up the Yuma Scorpions in an 8-0 win. In three starts so far this season he has gone 8 innings or more every time and has an E.R.A. for the season of just 1.44.
