
Vipers smother Skyforce 96-76

Hidalgo, TX- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers used a 13-0 run to start the game en route to a 96-76 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce Saturday night at Dodge Arena. The Vipers started out red-hot by not missing a shot from the field until after the first media time out. Sioux Falls did not score their first basket until the 8:27 mark of the first quarter .The win gives improves Rio Grande's record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 at Dodge Arena.
Gabe Muoneke led the offensive charge for Rio Grande Valley, as the former Texas Longhorn led all scorers with 33 points. CJ Watson chipped in with 22 points for the Vipers. Houston Rockets assignee Steve Novak added eight points and led on the boards with 10.
The Vipers led by as many as 31 points and led by 29 after three quarters. The Skyforce had a furious offensive fourth quarter and cut the deficit to as few as 11 points as they outscored the Vipers 32-23 in the final period. Nik Caner-Medley led four Skyforce players in double figures with 19. Damone Brown had a double-double for Sioux Falls as he added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Vipers will travel to Tulsa on Sunday as they face Southwest Division rival the Tulsa 66ers for the first time this season to complete a stretch of four games in five nights in four different cities. Tip-off from the Expo Square Pavilion is scheduled for 6:00 pm. The Vipers will return home on Sunday December 9th when the face Tulsa at Dodge Arena for a 5pm tip-off.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are an expansion team in the NBA Development League (NBA D-League). The D-League is the official minor league of the National Basketball Association. Now in its seventh season, the D-league will have 14 teams that will play a 50 game schedule. The teams include Albuquerque Thunderbirds (NM), Anaheim Arsenal (CA), Austin Toros (TX), Bakersfield Jam (CA), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, ND), Fort Wayne Mad Ants (IN), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Iowa Energy (Des Moines), Los Angeles D- Fenders (CA), Sioux Falls Skyforce (SD) and Tulsa 66ers (OK) and Utah Flash (Orem). The Vipers NBA affiliates are the Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Hornets.
