The Edmonton Cracker-Cats batted around twice last night in a 12-3 drubbing of the Calgary Vipers at TELUS Field.
In the 1st inning, right fielder Jeremy Ware blasted a grand slam home run on the first pitched ball from Calgary starter Quinten Oldenberg. Oldenberg worked the first 4 and 1/3 innings giving up 8 runs, 6 earned on 8 hits. Oldenberg falls to 1 and 2. The Cracker-Cats scored 4 more runs in the 8th inning off reliever Josh Daws.
Cracker-Cat left hander Brad Bissell won his 1st professional ball game with an impressive 7 and 2/3 inning performance, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, and scattering 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. Relief pitcher Scott Richmond surrendered a 9th inning home run to Josh Carter.
The Cracker-Cats are now 7 and 5, tied with Winnipeg 2.5 games behind the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the West Division of the Northern League. The 3 and 9 Vipers, losers of 8 straight, are in the cellar 6.5 games back.
The series concludes Thursday morning with an 11:05 AM start time. Right hander Jeff Little will pitch for the Cats, and Javier Ortiz, 0-1, will counter for the Vipers.
