
Vipers Dominate Fuerza Regian in Exhibition Play

HIDALGO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers topped the LNBP's Fuerza Regia 133-101 tonight at State Farm Arena in exhibition play. Tonight's game marked the third international exhibition game the Vipers have played versus a team from Mexico in the past four seasons.
The Vipers were led by Tyrone White with 18 points, followed by Geron Johnson with 17 points. Raphiael Putney added 13 points. Akil Mitchell and Brandon Provost each scored 11 points.
Fuerza Regia was led by Myron Allen with 30 points. P.J. Reyes notched 23 points. Lance Alfred scored a double-double 16 points and 13 rebounds.
At the end of the first quarter, the Vipers were on top 32-31. With 8:21 remaining in the first half, a three-pointer from Mitchell gave RGV a 45-39 lead. Reyes responded for Fuerza Regia with consecutive baskets and Alfred connected on a dunk to tie the game at 45 points. Tony Bishop sank a shot at the line and White made a three-pointer to put the Vipers back in the 49-45 lead. At the half, RGV led 72-55.
The Vipers controlled the second half of the game, and led by 34 points, 132-98 after a layup and shot at the line from Putney with 1:07 on the clock.
The Vipers open the 2014-15 season at home with back-to-back games versus the Austin Spurs Nov. 14 and 15 at State Farm Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT) both nights.
