Vipers Clobbered by Toros

One win away from a league championship the Calgary Vipers were throttled 12-1 by the Tucson Toros before 3194 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Despite the loss the Vipers still lead the best of five Golden Baseball League Championship Series 2-1. Dustin Glant (1-1) was phenomenal for the Toros throwing a complete game and giving up only one run on six hits while walking one. At the plate Tucson pounded out 17 hits and scored ten of their runs from the third to sixth inning.

Dallas Mahan (0-1) took the loss giving up four earned runs in four and a third innings.

Tucson opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as Ryan Priddy singled, Junior Spivey reached on a fielding error, and Dustin Yount lined a two-run double for a 2-0 lead.

The Toros added a run to their lead in the fourth as Mayo Santana and Dylan Paryk singled to put runners at the corners while Priddy hit a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 advantage.

In the top of the fifth frame Tucson continued the scoring as Yount tripled, Lino Garcia picked up a run batted in groundout, Jim Rushford singled, Andre Marshall doubled, and Santana plated two with a two-base hit for a 6-0 lead.

The onslaught continued in the visitor's half of the sixth inning as Skip Adams walked, Spivey reached on a throwing error, Yount walked to load the bases, Garcia plated two with a single, Rushford hit a sacrifice fly, and Marshall knocked one in with a base hit for a 10-0 advantage.

One more run was added to the lead in the seventh as Spivey singled, Yount walked, and Garcia cashed Spivey with a base knock for a 11-0 score.

A final tally was scored in the top of the ninth frame as Priddy and Adams singled capped off by a Yount RBI base hit for a 12-0 lead.

Calgary broke the shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth inning as Sergio Pedroza was hit by a pitch, Raul Gonzalez laced a double, and Wilver Perez hit a fly ball that scored Pedroza.

Game 4 of the G.B.L. Finals is in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Saturday September 12th at 5:35 PM MDT.

If necessary a winner-takes-all Game 5 will also be in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Sunday September 13th at 3:05 PM MDT.
