Villanueva earns weekly af2 offensive honor

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers today announced that quarterback Brian Villanueava was named by the af2 league offices the Russell Athletic af2 Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2.
Villanueva (6-4, 245, Fort Valley State), in his fourth af2 season, led the Barnstormers to a 73-68 Week 2 upset victory at home against No. 3-ranked Tulsa. In his first start for Iowa, the FortValleyState alum completed 24-of-39 passes (61.5 percent) in the contest for 244 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. He also added two rushing touchdowns as the Barnstormers raced out to a 2-0 start, the best beginning to a season in team history. This is the first af2 weekly award of Villanueva's career.
When asked about his honor, Villanueava commented "Individual awards are great, but right now I'm just happy to be part of a team that I feel has great potential. The win over Tulsa is behind us and now we're looking forward to Friday's game at Peoria".
Next up for the Barnstormers is a two-game road trip to Peoria and Tulsa. Kick-off for Friday night's game in Peoria is 7:05pm.
