Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

Milwaukee Iron Defensive Specialist Lavar Stepter was named the af2 Aaron's Defensive Player of the Week. Stepter is a four-year veteran defensive back from Harper Junior College who recorded a team-high eight tackles and corralled two interceptions helping the Iron, a first-year af2 franchise, record its first league victory.

Stepter was a major player on defense in Milwaukee's week two road win at Mahoning Valley, 59-39. Stepter returned his first interception 30 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter while his second interception halted Mahoning Valley's final drive of the night. This is the first af2 weekly award of Stepter's career.

Milwaukee Iron Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Gary Compton said this when learning of Stepter's award, "He is a playmaker, that is why we brought him here."

Lavar Stepter learned of the honor as he was speaking to to 6th, 7th & 8th graders at Clarke Street School with teammate Demarcus Johnson. The pair were speaking about being positive role models, staying in school and remaining positive in tough situations.
