Vote Mustangs Ryan McFoy National Guard Community MVP

July 30, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

MILWAUKEE (July 30, 2012) - Milwaukee Mustangs defensive back Ryan McFoy was named National Guard Community MVP in week 14 for his philanthropic efforts in 2012. McFoy (6-2, 210, Arizona State) was in his first season in the AFL and made tremendous efforts to give back to the community.

After battling the Cleveland Gladiators the night before, McFoy and three of his teammates participated in the Autism Speaks Walk at Soldier Field in Chicago on Saturday, May 12. All proceeds benefited autism research. McFoy and his teammates took pictures and spoke with the children. The walk was even more special for McFoy, who has a younger sister, Desiree, with autism.

"It was a good experience to learn more about autism. It's something that a lot of people don't have much of an understanding about," McFoy said. "The walk was definitely special for me," he added. "As a family, we have to help her out with a lot of things so autism was always a part of my life but not something that I knew a lot about."

In addition to the Autism Speaks Walk, McFoy also dedicates his time to Strong Links, a teen mentoring center in Pewaukee that provides teens with an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. McFoy plays kickball with the teenagers and tries to give them advice whenever he can.

"These aren't necessarily troubled youths but children that just need guidance," McFoy said. "It's fun hanging out with the kids and being a role model for them because a lot of youths today don't have positive male role models in their life"

McFoy also made visits to local schools and recently participated in a nonprofit football clinic for a youth football team. Along with his teammates, McFoy ran drills and played games with the young athletes.

"I am passionate about being a part of these kids' lives," McFoy said. "I don't try to lecture them; I just try to be like a big brother. Give them advice and guide them in the same way I was guided growing up."

It is players like McFoy that demonstrate all aspects of being a professional athlete. He gets the job done both on and off the field and is an ideal candidate for this year's 2012 National Guard Community MVP award.
