Atlantic City Surf News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ- Villanova came out here and really showcased some talent as they hit with wood bats for the first time in a live game. the "Wildcats" are 9-25 on the year but have good talent on the team. we saw that today as they beat the Surf 9-7.

The Surf looked good in the first four innings as pitcher Tighe Brown gave up only one hit. Villanova ended up scoring six runs combined in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but the Surf came right back after trailing 7-3 to tie the game up at 7-all. the Surf scored three runs in the eighth inning on a Franklin Para RBI triple, a Lucas Taylor Sacrifice Fly, and a Trey Beamon Single scoring the speedy Vernon Spearman.

some costly errors cost the Surf tonights game as two Villanova runs crossed the plate in the ninth inning on a couple miss-plays. This was however, the first game for the Surf this pre-season so all is well.

Those college kids played a great game against a very good Surf club that must have been a little shocked. How many times do you see a college team beat a Minor League team? Not often, but for Mitch Williams and the rest of the club, this was only practice.

Final score, Surf seven, Villanova nine.
