Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, N.J. -- The Newark Bears today traded the rights to left-handed pitcher Kris Kozlowski to the Nashua Pride in exchange for infielder/outfielder Francisco Lebron. Lebron, who had eight home runs and 28 RBI's in 64 games for the Pride last season will look to compete for time at first base and in the outfield.

Signed by the Mets as an undrafted free agent in 1998, the 27-year old Lebron spent two seasons in New York's chain before beginning the 2001 season with Lehigh Valley. His contract was then purchased by the White Sox as he proceeded to spend time with Chicago affiliates Kannapolis, Winston-Salem and Birmingham before signing with Nashua. For his career, the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder has played in 327 games and is a .280 hitter. He has swatted 44 home runs and collected 161 RBI's while compiling a .461 slugging percentage.

The Bears, with the recently-signed Rickey Henderson, open their 2003 season a week from today, playing host to Bridgeport at 7:05 in Game One of a four-game weekend series. Single-game, group and season tickets for the entire 2003 campaign are now on sale. Tickets can be obtained by calling (973) 483-6900, by logging on to NewarkBears.com or by visiting the Bears Box Office located adjacent to Gate D at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
