Victoria Seals News Release

Wailuku, HI - Aiming to climb above .500 for the first time since the month of May, the Victoria Seals returned to action against Na Koa Ikaika Maui on Thursday night. Sending rookie Andrew Arreola (4-3) to the mound for the start, the Seals matched up against Donald Brandt (5-0) for Maui in game three.

Getting an early jump on one of the league's top pitchers, the Seals opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when lead-off batter Wilver Perez lifted his fifth home run of the season over the outfield fence to make it 1-0 Victoria.

Finding offense of their own in the bottom of the fourth frame, Maui took a 2-1 lead with the help of a double from Mark Okano, followed by an RBI single courtesy of Jowen Murray-Thornton ahead of a triple from Michael Higa to put Na Koa Ikaika on top.

Maui would then pad their advantage in the sixth inning, converting a lead-off walk to Phil Avlas with the help of an error to Seals third basemen Brian Rios and a single courtesy of Tim Battle to put Na Koa Ikaika up 3-1.

Rounding out the scoring in the bottom half of the seventh, Maui stretched their lead to four runs on three-straight singles from Gered Mochizuki, Paul Nishimura, and a two-run hit from Keoni Ruth to push the score to 5-1 in favour of the home side.

Going down in order in the final two frames to relievers T.J. Macy and Jamie Vermilyea, the Seals took just their second loss in the last 13 games by a 5-1 final from Iron Maehara Stadium.

Andrew Arreola took the loss to fall to 4-4 on the season, while Donald Brandt remained dominant on the mound for Maui, earning his league-leading sixth win in 2010. Two hits and two runs batted in by Keoni Ruth was the offensive highlight for Na Koa Ikaika, while Wilver Perez added a pair of stolen bases to move his total to 32 in the chase for the league record (51).
