Toros Drop Last Home Game Before All-Star Break 7-4
July 9, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
Tucson's final home game before the All-Star break ended in a 7-4 loss against the Chico Outlaws Thursday night, but Toros RF Francisco Plasencia increased his hitting streak to 18 straight games.
Chico scored twice in both the 2nd and 3rd innings and led 4-1 after 3. Plasencia cracked the scoreboard for the Toros in the 2nd inning with a solo lead off bomb to straight away center for his first home run of the season. In doing so Plasencia increased his hitting streak to 18 straight, tying himself with fellow teammate 1B Cristobal Santana for the Toros longest hitting streak of the season. Plasencia is also only two games away from tying the GBL's longest hitting streak of the season, a 20-gamer held by Chico's 3B Ismael Castro.
The Toros brought themselves within a run in the 4th inning after Catcher Luis Apodaca, and Starting Pitcher Vince Davis both slapped RBI singles to left to make it 4-3 Chico. However, the Outlaws would add 3 more runs to their lead with 2 runs in the top half of the 7th inning.
OF Darren Blakely made his Toros debut Thursday night, with a sacrifice fly in his first at bat in the bottom of the 8th to help cut into Chico's lead to make it 7-4, but the scoring ended there.
The Toros will head on the road to Orange County where they will play 3 games in 2 days, including a doubleheader on Saturday. The club will not return to Hi Corbett Field until July 23rd when they'll kick off a 3 game homestand against the St. George Roadrunners. In the mean time, Hi Corbett will host the International Minor League All-Star Festivities from July 12th to the 14th with a Fan Fest, Home Run Derby and All-Star Game.
