July 9, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release

The Chico Outlaws finished Thursday's nights game at Hi Corbett Field with one more hit than the Toros, but finished with three more runs where it really counts, on the scoreboard. With the 7-4 win over the Toros, the Outlaws took the series from the Toros two games to one.

Demetrius Banks (5-1) got the win for Chico, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, striking out one. Tucson starter Vince Davis (3-3) took the loss after giving up six runs, five earned on eight hits over six and a third innings.

The Outlaws put up two spots in the second, third and seventh innings, adding a single run in the eighth frame, while Tucson's only crooked number on the scoreboard came when they put up a two spot of their own in the fourth inning.

Center fielder Mitch Einertson's two RBI single in the second put up the games' first two runs, one of four hits on the night for the Outlaws outfielder.

Toro's right fielder Francisco Plasencia extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest current streak in the GBL, with a solo home run off Banks in the bottom of the second to cut the Outlaws lead to 2-1.

In the third inning, the Outlaws loaded the bases off Davis, who then issued a walk to Mike Rose to plate a run by Bobby Hill. Ismael Castro then hit a sac fly to center, scoring JJ Sherrill for a 4-1 lead.

Tucson put up two runs in the fourth when Ryan Priddy doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a Plascencia single. Catcher Luis Apodaca stroked an RBI single to score Priddy and one batter later, Davis helped his own cause with an RBI single to plate Plascencia, making it a one-run game at 4-3.

The Outlaws seventh inning started with one out and a Bobby Hill double. Sherrill followed immediately with a double of his own to cash in Hill. Mikael Jova then laced an RBI single to right to bring in Sherrill and Chico went up 6-3.

Chico loaded up the bases in the eighth inning with one out, enabling Hill to launch a sac fly to left, bringing in Del Real with the Outlaws final run of the night.

Josh Dew came into the game in relief of Banks in the sixth inning and pitched into the eighth, when Tucson rapped three straight hits off the former St Louis Cardinals prospect. Manager Garry Templeton summoned closer Matt Perisho out of the Outlaws bullpen to face new Toro Darren Blakely, who hit a sacrifice fly to score Apodace for the games final run.

Perisho pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief with three strikeouts, picking up his fifth save of the year. Dew pitched two and a third innings of relief, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out two.

The Outlaws improved to 32-10 on the year, while Tucson drops to 20-24 on the year.

The final three games of the first half for the Outlaws are in Yuma, starting Friday night as rightie Javier Ortiz goes to the hill against the Scorpions. Yuma is battling Maui for the first-half title in the GBL South Division. Game time is 6:30 pm.
