Victoria Seals News Release
Victoria, BC - Capping off a nine-game homestand with the final game of a four-game set against the Orange County Flyers, the Victoria Seals returned to a rainy Royal Athletic Park on Sunday afternoon. Handing the ball to Kyle Wilson (0-0) for the start, the Seals batters squared off against former World Series Champion Byung-Hyun Kim (0-0) in game four.
With the two starters allowing only three combined hits through four innings of play, it would be the home side striking first with a big bottom of the fifth. Wilver Perez put the Seals up 1-0 with his first home run of the year, off the scoreboard in left. Then, after Colin Moro reached with a double and Terrence McClain took first on an Orange County error, the Seals stretched their lead to 3-0 when the Flyers committed their second error of the inning and Chris Van Rossum picked up and RBI base hit.
Orange County answered right back in the top of the sixth, though, using an RBI single from Jimmy Rohan to cash Steve Boggs before Jim Geothals drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a 3-2 ball game.
The Flyers then added three more runs in the top of the seventh, capitalizing on a run-scored hit from Ben Johnson and a bases-loaded overthrow by Seals shortstop Eric Pringle that put the visitors on top 5-3.
After the Seals pulled back within one on a solo blast from Chris Van Rossum, the Flyers padded their advantage in the eighth frame. Another RBI single from Rohan left Orange County back up by a pair of runs, a lead that closer Andre Simpson would preserve for the 6-4 win.
Seals reliever Andrew Arreola took his first loss of the season, while the win for the Flyers went the way of a strong performance in relief from Manny Ayala. Wilver Perez paced the Seals in a losing effort, going 3-for-5 with the home run while Jimmy Rohan stretched his hit streak to eight games for Orange County.
