Orange County Flyers News Release

VICTORIA, British Columbia (May 30, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers finally got the best of the Victoria Seals, overcoming a three-run deficit to defeat the Seals, 6-4, at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria for the franchise's first win on the Seals' home field. The Flyers improved to 5-3 on the season.

Orange County pulled ahead of the Seals with a three-run seventh thanks to an RBI single from Ben Johnson, and an RBI ground ball from Julian Benavidez that Seals' shortstop Eric Pringle threw away, allowing an additional run to score, giving the Flyers a 5-4 lead.

Jimmy Rohan added his second RBI single of the game in the top of the eighth for an insurance run, 6-4. Rohan, the Flyers secondbaseman, led the going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI, extending his season-opening hit streak to eight games.

Closer Andre Simpson pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters to get the save. Manny Ayala earned the win for the Flyers, pitching 3.1 innings giving up just one run on two hits while striking out five and walking two.

The pitchers duel lasted four innings until the Seals finally chased Byung-Hyun Kim from the mound. Wilver Perez knocked a solo homerun, and Colin Moro followed with a double. A pair of throwing errors allowed Moro to score, and Chris Van Rossum's RBI single made it 3-0 Seals. Perez's homerun was the only earned run of the inning.

Byung-Hyun Kim finished with 4.2 innings pitched, 3 runs (1 earned) on five hits while striking out three and walking three. Kim is next scheduled to start in Calgary on Saturday, June 5.

Orange County answered back with two runs in the top of the sixth. Jimmy Rohan drove in Steve Boggs on an RBI single, and Jim Goethals drew a bases-loaded walk to pull the Flyers within one run, 3-2.

The Flyers are off until Wednesday as the team will remain in Canada, traveling to Calgary for a five-game series against the defending champion Calgary Vipers. The first game of the series is Wednesday, June 2 with first pitch scheduled at 1:35pm Mountain.
