Victoria Seals News Release

Celebrating the Victoria Day holiday with game number four of a five game set against Na Koa Ikaika Maui, the Victoria Seals returned to Royal Athletic Park hoping for back-to-back wins on Monday night. Handing the ball to Jino Gonzalez (0-0) for the left-hander's first start of the season, Victoria faced off against another leftie from Maui with Kaimi Mead (0-0) taking the mound for the visitors.

Striking first in the bottom half of the second inning, Victoria jumped onto the board when a lead-off walk to Terrence McClain set up a two-run blast from Shane Cronin, his first home run of the season. Answering back with a pair of their own in the top of the third, Maui used a double courtesy of Fehlandt Lentini to advance runners to second and third for an RBI groundout off the bat of Michael Higa and a run-scoring single from Keoni Ruth to even the game, 2-2.

Na Koa Ikaika would then grab the lead for good in the fifth frame with Lentini hitting a single, stealing second base and scoring from second on a groundout by Ruth. The Maui right-fielder found himself on the scoresheet again in the seventh inning, turning a two-out walk into a 4-3 lead following back-to-back singles from Higa and Ruth.

Padding their lead with a two-out single from pitcher Jamie Vermilyea and a solo home run from Mark Okano in the eighth and ninth, respectively, Maui headed to the bottom of the ninth inning with a 7-3 lead. Squaring off against closer Jerry Spradlin for a second straight game, Victoria could only muster one run thanks to an RBI double from Sean Smith before conceding a 7-4 loss in the fourth game of the series.

Starter Jino Gonzalez is charged with his first loss of the season, while Kaimi Mead picks up his first win as a member of Na Koa Ikaika Maui. Fehlandt Lentini was excellent both defensively and offensively for the visitors, finishing with a single, double, two walks, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases on the night.

The final visit for Na Koa Ikaika Maui to Royal Athletic Park this regular season comes your way tomorrow night when the two teams conclude this five-game set at 7:05 p.m local time. The contest will also be broadcast live online at www.victoriaseals.ca, and in the ballpark on 88.1 FM. Both single game and season tickets for the 2010 campaign are now on sale, available through the Victoria Seals office. Call (250) 220-7777 for more information, or to book your seat today!
