Orange County Flyers News Release
ST. GEORGE, Utah (May 25, 2010) -- Former World Series Champion and NL All-Star Byung-Hyun Kim takes the mound tonight in his first start of the season as the Orange County Flyers look to sweep the St. George RoadRunners in the season-opening series. Kim made his first appearance of the season on Saturday, pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning in relief.
The submarine-style pitcher spent nine years in the major leaguers as a closer and starting pitcher for Arizona, Boston, Colorado and Florida. He posted the best season for a closer in D-Backs history with 36 saves in 2002, earning a spot on the National League All-Star team. In 2006, Kim played for South Korea in the World Baseball Classic.
The Flyers offense has battered the RoadRunners through the first three games of the series, putting up at least 12 runs in each of the first three games. Outfielder Ben Johnson currently is tied for first in the Golden Baseball League with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI in the young season.
Tonight's game can be heard live with first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm Pacific. The broadcast is available online via Live365 at the website below. The Flyers will be off Wednesday as the team travels to Victoria, British Columbia, to begin a four-game series against the Victoria Seals on Thursday.
Orange County's home opener is Tuesday, June 15 against the defending GBL Champion Calgary Vipers. For more information, go to www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com.
