Toros Rally Late But Fall To Calgary 8-4

May 25, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release

The Tucson Toros scored four times in the final three innings but lost 8-4 for their third loss in a row and second straight at the hands of the Calgary Vipers.

Calgary jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 5 runs of the game off of Toros starting pitcher Vince Davis, including 4 runs in the first inning. Davis got into a groove late though, keeping Tucson in the ballgame by facing the minimum after the third inning and retiring 9 of the last 10 batters he faced.

Vipers starter Joe Sergent held Tucson scoreless until the 7th inning when the Toros stacked up 5 consecutive hits to plate, scoring a pair of runs and cutting the deficit to 3. That was as close as the home club would get with the Vipers answering back with 3 runs in the top of the 8th.

Shortstop Ryan Priddy went 3-for-4, including hitting his first home run of the season when he drilled a solo shot over the left field fence in the 9th. Priddy raised his batting average from .188 to .300 with the strong performance.

Rightfielder Victor Ferrante and Third Baseman Wally Backman Jr. each had multi-hit nights as well, with Ferrante extending his hitting streak to 5 games and Backman Jr. legging out his team leading 2nd triple of the year.

The Toros and Vipers will play the final game of the homestand on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
