
Flyers Sweep Season-Opening Series

ST. GEORGE, Utah. (May 25, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers offense continued to overpower the RoadRunners pitching staff in a 10-4 win in St. George on Tuesday. Orange County improved the 4-0 on the season, sweeping the RoadRunners in the season-opening series.
With two outs in the fourth inning, the Flyers offense came alive after a costly St. George error. With runners in scoring position, shortstop CJ Lang's throw to first went wide allowing a pair of runs to cross the plate. One batter later, Jimmy Rohan blasted a two-run homerun to give the Flyers a 4-1 lead.
In the fifth, Jim Goethals followed back-to-back leadoff hits with his second homerun of the season, a three-run blast to give the Flyers a 7-2 lead. Rohan later doubled-home Steve Boggs as Orange County led 8-2.
Kevin Altman earned the win, coming into the game with the bases loaded to induce a ground ball and get the Flyers out of the jam in the fourth.
Starter Byung-Hyun Kim pitched 3 and 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking six.
Both Jim Goethals and Jimmy Rohan finished a triple shy of the cycle. Rohan led the way with a 4-for-6 effort and three RBI.
The Flyers are off on Wednesday as the team travels to Victoria to take on the Seals in a four-game series beginning on Thursday. Orange County will send reigning GBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Durkin to the mound to begin the series. First pitch on Thursday is 7:00pm Pacific at Royal Athletic Park.
